Naturally we would prefer that you use the latest version of Chimera. We consider it to be much better, but an older version might be necessary for an older computer or operating system (at least more than 5 years old). Please read the release notes at http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/relnotes/1.7.html to see what has changed.
