Hello, our institution was planning to order a copy of MidasPlus, but now we have been told about chimera. A crucial question is: does chimera also include a version of the ms molecular surface calculation program which is suitable for input file preparation for the program DOCK, as it is true for MidasPlus? I could not find the answer in the chimera information available on the web, but I hope that you can help me. Thank you in advance, Eckhart Guthöhrlein

The current version of Chimera (12/02; build 1602) doesn't have the capability to prepare an ms file suitable for DOCK, though we anticipate that capability being in the next release (~ 3/03). You don't actually need Chimera or Midas to make the ms file, since we distribute a program (dms) capable of making the file. You can download dms from http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/Overview/software.html .

If you are going to use DOCK, you should investigate Chimera, because it includes a tool (ViewDock) specifically dedicated to examining DOCK results. Eric Pettersen UCSF Computer Graphics Lab pett@cgl.ucsf.edu http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu
