
I was able to fish out the Paul Bourke warp dome python code from blender. I should be able to get it into a form that could be put into chimera. Would like to discuss how this might be passed off into official releases. Also, the material science lab at Carnegie Mellon is replicating my 9ft lab dome, which uses spherical mirror to create the warped dome. The full fisheye is critical for getting chimera output into regular permanent planetariums doing animation. The warp dome would be critical for interactive lab research. As an aside, Marc DeGraef has also been developing and HDF5 format for their EM & Xray datasets. Hi Matt, The trick to get me to put custom dome warping into Chimera is to give me an example warp file with completely clear documentation on the format of the file and how the warp is defined, and throw in an example unwarped (fish eye) image and warped image. With that I could probably put it into Chimera in half a day. The current Chimera dome mode computes a cube map and all that is needed is to set up some warping geometry defined by the file and texture map the scene onto it. Chimera currently does the full hemisphere fish-eye interactively which is what we have been using for animations. Let’s get things working in mono before we worry about stereo. Sound good. The blender code is in lockstep with Bourke. Future changes in his format relate to video walls. I agree on S3D. I can fake it by dti with a fov 120 degrees. The whole market is in flux, may take a few years to recover. I needed to get the warp dome source code out there before I forget. I plan to get back to coding this around August. Also in August I plan to do S3D coding. We are buying a zspace and I will be doing similar low level coding.
