Since this problem is probably of zero interest to anyone else on this list, I am going to open a ticket in our bug database for the problem that will allow us to solicit further feedback without clogging up everyone else's mailboxes.

Normally you would use Chimera's Help->Report A Bug to report such a problem, but since Chimera won't start you can't.  Just so people know, in such cases there are two other ways to report an issue:

1) Use the bug-submission form at http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/cgi-bin/chimera_bug_report_2.py to report it.  Not the easiest URL to memorize.  The easier-to-remember way to get to it is to go to the Chimera home page, click on the "Contact Us" link, and then use the "online submission form" link.

2) Send mail directly to chimera-bugs@cgl.ucsf.edu.  We slightly prefer the previous method because it gives us a little more info, but this method is fine too.

Hi,

I was running Chimera 1.7s 64bit under Windows 7 64 bit, and all was fine until I started trying it with a 3D monitor. While I was playing with stereo options, Chimera crashed and now it gives me an error at launch and quits, so I cannot run it anymore.

I uninstalled it, deleted its preferences folder .chimera from AppData folder, cleaned up chimera occurences from registry and reinstalled the daily version, and it still doesn’t work!

After launch, the error window shows:

---------------------------
Chimera Launcher Error
---------------------------
chimera failed abnormally; the exit code was: 1.
Use the --debug command line option for the full error message.

And if I launch it with the –debug option, this is what I can see in the terminal (command line):

Cannot execute 'gzip': no automatic decompression of .Z files

I was planning to get something done this weekend, so I’d appreciate any replies.

Looking forward to the solution.

Thanks and have a nice weekend.
