Inspired by your comments, I just moved my .chimera directory and started with a fresh configuration. That did the trick. I have no idea what had corrupted my old settings but I just could not get the silhouette edges to show in black with 1.7 or 1.8.1 but only with 1.5.3 and 1.6. Now I'm enjoying the great-looking silhouette edges again in 1.8.1. Thank you very much, Thomas
