This kind of error is usually due to a buggy graphics driver. Please file a bug using chimera's Help / Report a Bug dialog so the chimera bug database will have a record of the buggy graphic driver version, then update your graphics driver (do not use yum, use the vendor's graphics driver installer), and then follow up the bug with whether or not that fixed it (presumably it will).
