This is a graphics driver problem. If you are running Chimera on one machine and displaying on another then the graphics driver (or Mesa) on either machine could cause the problem, or they just aren't able to talk to each other. First thing I would try is install 1.5.3 (if you removed it) and see that it still works. You can have Chimera 1.6.2 and 1.5.3 installed at the same time. Just put them in different directories. I don't know of any difference between Chimera 1.6.2 and 1.5.3 that would explain why one would work and not the other. You could also try the Chimera daily build. Does Chimera crash when you load data or just when you start up? If it starts you should use Help / Report a Bug so we know your graphic driver and other system info. Tom
Hi,
I replaced the previous version of Chimera, UCSF-Chimera64-1.5.3 with the new one UCSF-Chimera64-1.6.2 on our cluster running Linux l22 2.6.32-131.17.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Oct 5 17:19:54 CDT 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux whereas everything was perfect so far I now get the error message:
X Error of failed request: GLXBadContextTag Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent) Serial number of failed request: 1352 Current serial number in output stream: 1352
followed by a crash. This is annoying since I need the new version for compatibility with some sessions saved with the new version on another machine.
Thanks a lot for hints, Dieter
