Collada is a triangle format, so I'd recommend exporting from chimera in either the OBJ or the STL format and then convert it that to Collada. Neither Chimera export is ideal for Collada, the OBJ format has color, but only does surfaces, and the STL format doesn't have color, but does everything. The open-source program MeshLab can be used to convert STL output to a Collada .dae file and has some ability to add color. MeshLab didn't like Chimera's OBJ output in my test case, so you'll need to find a different program for that. So, sorry I don't have a better answer for you, perhaps someone else on this list has alternate suggestions. I'll add a Collada exporter to the list of feature requests. -- Greg On Fri, 20 Jan 2012, Evan Kantrowitz wrote:
Hi, The new iBooks Author system uses the collada .dae for its 3D widget. Chimera does not seem to output this format, is that correct? Does anyone know the best way to convert one of the available save scene formats to a collada .dae file.
