Hi Rebecca, There is no step-value default per se, but probably your data starts at step 4 because it is a over a certain size. You can turn off the setting that does this. In Volume Viewer menu: Features… Data display options, then turn off “Adjust step to show at most…” (See also “Show data when opened if smaller than…” but maybe that hasn’t been an issue.) Save changes for later uses with Volume Viewer menu: Features… Save default dialog settings. This only saves global settings, not the per-dataset ones, but I believe those two settings are global. <http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/ContributedSoftware/volumeviewer/frame...> <http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/ContributedSoftware/volumeviewer/volum...> <http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/ContributedSoftware/volumeviewer/volum...> I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C. HI all, I was wondering if it was possible to set the Volume Viewer step to 1 as default instead of 4. Is this something I could add to my .chimera/preferences file? Cheers, Rebecca
