I have OS X 10.4.11 and I am trying to run Chimera. When I start Chimera.app it tells me to start X windowing system (Apple X server). X11 is not located in my applications/utlilties folder. How do I get this application? Is it on my installation disc for OS X? Regards, Chris Vavricka

Hi Chris, Yes, the X11 package is on your Mac OS 10.4 installation disk as an optional package. In Mac OS 10.5 it is installed by default. We have improved our native Mac version of Chimera that does not require X windows. You could try that without installing X11. Get it (Mac Aqua version) from our daily build web page: http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/alpha-downloads.html We still expect it to have user interface glitches that the Mac X11 version does not have but I have found it usable. Do not use the snapshot Mac Aqua version (june 21) on our main download page as it is older and has serious problems. Tom

Hi Chris, Here are some more detailed instructions for installing X11 on 10.4, if you decide to go that route: http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/1.2509/osx_x11.html Best, Elaine On Jul 2, 2008, at 11:11 AM, Christopher Vavricka wrote:
