Respected sir, I've been using Chimera software for quite some time now, but I'm unable to create a hexamer from a monomer. Is there any feature available to do so? and if present can you guide me on how to do it... please attach some tutorials too if possible. I'll be grateful to you, as these will be added in my research thesis. Regards, Kainaat Mahzaib John

Dear Kainaat, It depends what information is in the file. If you have a PDB file from the PDB database, sometimes it already has symmetry information that can be used to make the multimer. If it has "biological unit" information you can use the Model Panel function "biological unit" <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/modelpanel.html#biounit> ...or you could get the biological unit from the PDB database directly. <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/fetch.html> ...or use the "sym" command with "group biomt" <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/sym.html> If the file does not already have this information, if you know a similar related protein with a hexamer structure available, you could try opening your monomer 6 times and then superimposing the 6 copies on the 6 parts of the known hexamer, e.g. with Matchmaker tool or command: <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/ContributedSoftware/matchmaker/matchmaker.html> <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/mmaker.html> I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C.
