Hello Gökhan, I guess you are viewing this page about LookingGlass and ChimeraX: <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/data/lookingglass-july2020/> All I can say is that as mentioned in that page, "The HoloPlayService which allows applications to find the LookingGlass display must be running. Tested on macOS 10.15.5, Windows 10, and Linux Ubuntu 18.04 operating systems." So possible reasons for the problem is that you are not running the HoloPlayService, or that you are using a different operating system and something about it is incompatible or has changed from the systems that were tested. Tom who wrote this page is currently out of the country. He may have additional thoughts on this, but may not respond for a few weeks. By the way, there is another address chimerax-users@cgl.ucsf.edu that you may want to use in the future for ChimeraX specifically. This chimera-users mailing address is for the older program Chimera. This exact problem is described near on the page you found https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/data/lookingglass-july2020/ As it says, the Looking Glass display can only be found when there are two displays present due poor design of the Looking Glass driver. Tom “ Use on Windows. There were no problems with the computer recognizing the LookingGlass screen on Windows 10. ChimeraX is not able to reliably determine which connected display is the LookingGlass. The screen names seen by the Qt 5.12.7 window toolkit are DISPLAY1, DISPLAY4, .... If there is only one secondary display the ChimeraX lookingglass command will assume it is the LookingGlass.”

Hi Tom and Elaine, Yes, that was the ChimeraX web page I was referring to. Looks like I forgot to paste the link before hitting send; sorry about that. In addition to the ones under “Use on Windows” Tom mentioned, I also see his additional comments in the “Secondary screen” section. When I use a browser and go to this page of theirs: https://blocks.glass/ and hit the ‘cast’ button for any of the images there, the browser correctly detects the LookingGlass display and shows the image on it in stereo-3D. So, if a browser can do that (i.e., can detect the LookingGlass display correctly under Windows while multiple displays are connected), why can’t ChimeraX do so? Is that due to the use of different APIs? May it be possible to manually tell ChimeraX which display is the LookingGlass screen as a command-line option (e.g., display number 2 or 3, etc.) instead of ChimeraX trying to detect it automatically (and failing)? Or is that not possible due to how their driver works? Just FYI, I am using Win11 and the same ChimeraX issue described under Win10 seems to persist. Cheers, Gökhan From: Tom Goddard <goddard@sonic.net> Sent: Saturday, April 29, 2023 3:21 PM To: tolung.bio@gmail.com Cc: chimera-users@cgl.ucsf.edu List <chimera-users@cgl.ucsf.edu> Subject: Re: [Chimera-users] Looking Glass This exact problem is described near on the page you found https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/data/lookingglass-july2020/ As it says, the Looking Glass display can only be found when there are two displays present due poor design of the Looking Glass driver. Tom “ Use on Windows.
