Hi, I am a student trying to do a project on the protein calmodulin. I have just started using chimera and have gone though your tutorials and understood everything as it is very clear but i don't know how i would select the protein calmodulin and put it in the chimera display to make my images. I realise this is probably a simple step but this is all new to me and i would much appreciate your help. Thank you Annabel Roach

Hi Annabel, Generally you would go to the Protein Databank (PDB) Web site: <http://www.rcsb.org/pdb/home/home.do> and do some searching to figure out which structure(s) you want to view in Chimera. There are lots of ways to search, even just entering the word "calmodulin," although I expect that will give you a huge number of results. Each structure there has a 4-letter PDB ID code. You can either download PDB files from that site and then open them in Chimera, or just start Chimera, choose File... Fetch by ID, and enter the PDB ID code in the fetching dialog. Often the PDB ID codes will also be mentioned in scientific publications that describe or analyze the molecule's structure. I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C.
