Hi, Running win10 and using Chimera 1.12. Upon startup I'm getting the splash logo, then the rapid access screen. All OK so far. However I load any protein and the dialog along the bottom status bar confirms its loaded but the screen still shows the rapid access screen. I can toggle the lightning button in the bottom right as much as I like but it remains on the rapid access screen. Any ideas what to check? Hi Mark, Probably the first thing to check is that the driver for your graphics card is up to date. If the problem persists after installing the most recent driver for your card, then try this experiment: Open the IDLE Python shell (Tools->General Controls->IDLE) and type: from chimera.tkgui import app app.rapidAccess.shown = False Doe the rapid access interface go away when you do that? —Eric Eric Pettersen UCSF Computer Graphics Lab

Hi Mark, I have a vague recollection that this problem is caused by a problematic preferences file — particularly a bad entry in the recently opened files list. You can test this by renaming your “preferences” file to something else and then starting Chimera. You can tell which folder that file is in by starting Chimera, opening Preferences (Favorites->Preferences) and changing the Category in the resulting dialog to “Preferences”. The location of the preferences file will then be displayed. On Windows the folder typically is C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application Data. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this works… —Eric

Hi, I tried that, generated a new preferences file, and no change I’m afraid. The only thing that might be a factor I can think of is I changed the python install from std python(3.6) to anaconda (python 3.6). All other python apps work fine. Is this likely to be a cause, is there something I can check, a path, env variable setting, something like that? Hi Mark, The Chimera Python should not be affected by other Python installations. Chimera explicitly ignores the standard Python environment variables. But we may have missed one. Please send us a bug report using the Help / Report A Bug... menu entry. That will tell us what kind of computer you have and which graphics driver. Unfortunately, in this case, the environment variables are not part of the report. To send the environment variables, run the cmd program, type "set" (without quotes and press the Return/Enter key afterwards), then right mouse click to Select All of the text, then in the Description part of the Chimera bug submission dialog, type Control-V to paste in the selected text. Then submit the bug. -- Greg On 02/13/2018 01:17 AM, Mark Warren wrote:
