Preparing molecular structures for panel of figures

Hi Elaine, I want to create a panel containing 4 figures. Each figure in the panel will be a ball and sticks representation of an amino acid residue. I have tried using the "Tile Structures" feature in UCSF chimera to create the panel. Although it does ease the job a lot, I find it difficult in aligning residue labels or 2D labels. Is there a grid based feature which can display a grid on the chimera workspace so that I can use its lines as a guide to better align my labels? Thanks in advance Prathvi, Research Fellow, Department of Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur-208016

Hello Prathvi, No there is no grid, sorry. If you are using Chimera, then in the 2D Labels tool gui you can see the x,y position of the labels and you can try to make x or y the same by moving them interactively with the mouse, or you can save labels to file and then edit the x,y values directly in the file and then reload them. <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/ContributedSoftware/2dlabels/2dlabels.html> ChimeraX does not yet have a 2D Labels gui or label save format, although you can create 2dlabels with the command and then move them interactively with the mouse. <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/2dlabels.html> Also, although you can do what you want, normally when there are multiple panels I just make a separate image for each panel instead of trying to put everything into the same Chimera(X) window. Then if the journal requires only a single file, you can put the panels together with Gimp or Photoshop or some other image-processing program. I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C.
