Hi Mathy, Maybe it is confusing because the surfcolor command is not connected to the settings in the Surface Color dialog. The electrostatic potential file is actually one type of volume data, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say the surface is colored by volume data, not by electrostatic potential. For Surface Color, the only difference in treatment of electrostatic potential and other volume data is the default dialog settings, and these are not connected to the command. If using the scolor command to color by electrostatic potential, you will probably want to use the "offset 1.4" option, <http://plato.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/scolor.html#volume> which corresponds to the "surface offset" option in the Surface Color dialog when it is set to show electrostatic potential. I m using the last stable chimera 64 version for unix on redhat.

Hi Mathy, You are right that the surface color dialog does not update when you use the scolor command. I'll add that to our feature request list. Everything you are doing is right, just need to add the "offset 1.4" option to the scolor command so that the interpolated potential values are take 1.4 Angstroms from the surface. scolor #0 volume #1 cmap -15,red:-5,yellow:0,green:5,cyan:15,blue offset 1.4 Tom
