Hi, I was wondering if there is a port for chimera to run on Linux IA64 (sgi prism)? The x86 version runs in emulation mode on the system, thus the graphics defaults to Mesa indirect glx (really slow). Would a dev be willing to port it for this system if given access to the system? I'm also working on getting pymol compiled for it. vmd already has a native port with good performance. Thanks, Sabuj Pattanayek

Try the SGI IRIX version of chimera on the SGI Prism, I'm told that the IRIX emulator does a much better job than the x86 emulator. And please report back how well it works. Since all of the Linux Itanium systems with graphics are SGI Prisms, if the IRIX version works well, there would be little incentive to do a separate port. Our 64-bit desktop plan is to eventually do x86-64 (Opteron/Xeon) ports for both Windows and Linux as those systems should be more common. If there are others who would use chimera port that is not currently available, please speak up. It's a fair amount of work, so if there's no demand, it won't happen. Hi, Unfortunately that didn't work. It doesn't like the python2.4 executable. Thanks, Sabuj Pattanayek Greg Couch wrote:

You need to have the QuickTransit package installed. If you do and it still doesn't work, please create an account for me and send only me the login information so I can log in remotely and debug it. - Greg On Thu, 13 Jul 2006, Sabuj Pattanayek wrote:

Hi, Quick question. I'm trying to see if I can get Chimera to Xsession forward to a windows machine running cygwin. Has anyone had any success with this? I've had the most "success" using the following: ssh -o ForwardX11=yes user@server Chimera goes through initialization and main view window opens but then X crashes. Any suggestions aside from installing windows version of chimera? Thanks! --Yousaf Farukhi

I use: ssh -XY user@server Not as secure, but it works. - Greg

The current version of chimera, that we make available for Mac OS X, does not work in stereo because Apple's X11 server does not support stereo. All of the code is in place, so if Apple ever does get X11 stereo working, chimera will work too. (Please consider filing a bug report with Apple if this affects you.) Consequently, I've resurected the Aqua version, which does work in stereo. There are still many bugs in the GUI toolkit that chimera uses (Tcl/Tk) for Aqua that we have not worked around yet, but it is usable if you have already used the normal version of chimera. The Aqua version is availble in the snapshot section of the chimera download web page, <http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/download.html>. Greg Couch UCSF Computer Graphics Lab
