
hello, Is there a way to both color a surface-rendered protein by radius AND simultaneously color certain residues of the same chain with a distinct color? I have figured out how to do each one of these tasks, but can't seem to get both colorings to remain at the same time on the same protein. If I color by radius using "surface color" and then decide to highlight a particular residue, the particular residue is indeed colored, but at the expense of losing the color by radius to whatever color the protein was before that. thanks. mike

Hi Mike, Currently "custom coloring" (as with Surface Color) and "coloring based on the atoms" are mutually exclusive for a given surface. The slightly wacky workaround: - open the structure twice - show surfaces for both copies - color the surface of one copy with Surface Color - color the other surface with the residue colors you want (only the ones you want to show through matter, so don't bother doing anything with the ones that will still be shown with the custom coloring) - undisplay the atomic patches of the first surface where you want the others to show through We might change surface handling in the future so that this issue does not arise, but for now, this approach works!
