New 64-bit Linux version of Chimera
A new 64-bit Linux Chimera snapshot (version 1.2123) is available on the Chimera download page.

Unless you are viewing large data sets (> 1 Gb), we suggest you use 32-bit versions of Chimera on 64-bit Linux systems. 32-bit versions will likely run faster and use less memory. The 32-bit versions are more likely to be compatible with your Linux distribution.
We are not yet making regular distributions for 64-bit linux so our 32-bit version will usually be newer.

Will there be a 64-bit OS X version any time soon? Just curious.
Geoff.

Hi Geoff,
Apple's Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) only has limited 64-bit support. They do not provide 64-bit graphics libraries. So you can only have 64-bit "background" applications having no graphical user interface. Until they provide 64-bit graphics libraries Chimera cannot use a 64-bit address space on the Mac.
I learned this from the ArsTechnica review of Mac OS 10.4.
