Hello! When I download my pdb-files from the PDB homepage and open it in Chimera (File type all (guess type) or PDB) the structure appears in a normal way first. But after a few seconds or when I start working with the molecule, the structure breaks up and there are just orderless bars and lines. Perhaps you can help me with this problem? Thank you in advance. Greetings, Bianca Ackermann Institut für Mikrobiologie und Weinforschung AG Unden Becherweg 15 D - 55099 Mainz Tel.: +49-6131-3923553

Hi Bianca, This is a graphics driver problem. The best hope of fixing it is to update your graphics driver. Advice on how to do that as well as other suggestions appear on our graphics driver bug web page. http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/graphics/graphicsbugs.html Tom

Hello, The only time I've seem this kind of bug before is when the graphics hardware is flakely. Since it works initially, it might be failing after the graphics chip warms up, so it could be due to a broken fan in your computer, or poor airflow, or a bad graphics chip, or bad graphics memory, or .... Since this still could be a graphics driver bug, please report this as a bug using chimera's "Report a Bug" dialog found in the Help menu. That will tell us about your actual graphics setup and let us make specific recommendations on how to upgrade your graphics driver. But from your description, I suspect this is a physical problem with your computer. Good luck! Greg Couch UCSF Computer Graphics Lab
