Hi Derek,

ChimeraX does not have the Chimera Constrained Move tool (https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/ContributedSoftware/constrained/constrained.html).  We haven't migrated some of the rarely used Chimera tools to ChimeraX.

You can rotate a model about its own z axis using the "rotate z selected models" mouse mode.  You could assign this to the right mouse button using command

mouse right "rotate z selected models"

Then select a model and use the right mouse button (or hold the Command key on a Mac with a trackpad) to rotate just the selected model about the z axis.  I see there is also a translate xy selected models mode.  Here is the list of modes

https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/ui.html#functions

You can rotate a model about its z axis with the turn command.  For example, to rotate 30 degrees about the model's z axis

turn z 30 model #3 coordinateSystem #3

Here is documentation for the turn command.

https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/turn.html

Also you can translate one model along an axis with the move command.

move x 70 model #3 coordinateSystem #3

If you are still interested in having the mouse mode do other constrained motions by hand can you explain why that is useful.  If it sounds like something others might want I could add it.

Tom

Hi,

Thanks so much for ChimeraX! The tool is amazing so far. Is it possible to do the Constrained Movement GUI feature from the old Chimera in ChimeraX? I couldn’t find it in the GUI nor documentation.

Thanks in advanced!
Derek
