It turns out the problem was that the open source Nvidia graphics driver, nouveau, was being used.  The fix is to use the Nvidia proprietary/OEM graphics driver.  See https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/issues.html#linux_graphics for details.

I had to change my hard drive and reinstall everything. When launching chimerax, it starts but freeze. Have to kill it. OS ubuntu 22.04. No special message in the log when using chimerax --debug

Any idea ?
