I clicked on the color well in the model panel - maybe that is it? I will check and report bug then, thanks!

Hi Oliver,

I see when I use the model panel to change a model color it does not issue a command.  Use Help / Report a Bug... to get that fixed.  We want all gui actions to issue commands where feasible.  You say when you color the selection it also does not issue a command.  I don't know how you are coloring the selection.  If I use menu Actions / Color / From Editor it does issue a command.  Again submit a bug and explain the exact case you are talking about.

Thanks as always Elaine, I don't know how I missed that! :-)

But that seems different from the color code that is printed out to the log, which is in a format that includes the transparency in the code - see attached screenshot.

So I guess a more precise query - when I adjust the color of a volume, the color command, with the code, is printed to the log, whereas when I adjust the color of a model or selection it is not. This code is handy, because it includes both the color and transparency (last two digits), so it's useful to plug into a script or alias.

So if it's an easy thing to do (probably not in which case please ignore!) it would be useful if color commands were printed out to the log when adjusting the color of models or selections, as well as when adjusting the color of volumes.

Hi Oliver,
We are using the system color editor.  It is not a part of the ChimeraX code or anything we would be modifying, although happy to take praise :-).

However, if you're on a Mac and you mean the hex code, it is shown in the "RGB sliders" pane of the color editor.  You can still use the picker to pick what you want, and then switch to that pane.  See attached screenshot.
I hope this helps,
Elaine

Hi,

I love the color editor in ChimeraX, it is much nicer than the one in Chimera and is super useful!

One minor suggestion - would it be possible to add a dynamically updated label showing in the editor the current color code? This sometimes shows up in the log but not always, and it is useful to have easily copy-able for use in scripts and aliases.

Cheers
Oli
