Hi Stephen,
I answered this before for you. Check your emails on July 15, 2023. For everyone else, the thread is https://mail.cgl.ucsf.edu/mailman/archives/list/chimerax-users@cgl.ucsf.edu/thread/ERBZZR5QJBKMFDG3KPPEYWFSOG4O6MH4/#ZX6DNVSPSU2MZKZJMR2X6EA2XNOLY7AQ.
tl;dr for now, you need to find a libffi7 package and install it
before installing ChimeraX on Debian 12.
HTH,
Greg
It looks like the ChimeraX Ubuntu 22.04 distribution is supposed to list a dependency on libffi7 as seen in this list of ChimeraX Linux dependencies
https://github.com/RBVI/ChimeraX/blob/develop/mkubuntu.py
Did you follow the installation instructions on the ChimeraX download page?
sudo apt install ~/Downloads/ucsf-chimerax_1.6.1ubuntu22.04_amd64.deb
If you installed in a different way you might not get the dependencies listed in the .deb file. Maybe there is some other issue on Debian-12. Our Linux expert is on vacation until next Monday.

Unfortunately, the missing dependency libffi7 is not part of the distributiojn.
Please Advise.
Thanks in advance.
