As it says on our website "ChimeraX can be downloaded free of charge for academic, government, nonprofit, and personal use." UCSF ChimeraX is used in many college and university courses all over the world, all under the free academic license, and we do not require advance notice of such use. Students, professors, and others at your institution can freely download software for this purpose. Clicking a download link shows the free academic license, and the user only needs to click the "Accept" button at the bottom of it to continue the download.
