Unfortunately  we don't have a Microsoft surface laptop to test on.   And my googling is finding instructions for developers to get their applications to run on Windows Arm, but not instructions for users to get it to work.

Only the recent ChimeraX WIndows installers, the 1.9 release candidate and the daily builds, will install on Windows 11 Arm.  So maybe that was the issue?

And make sure you're running Windows 11 24H2 or later.   In Windows 10 Arm, the emulator only supports 32-bit applications and ChimeraX is a 64-bit application.

We do plan to eventually offer a Windows Arm version of ChimeraX that will run without emulation.  That will be announced on the chimerax-users mailing list when it happens.

Hello,

I have been trying to download ChimeraX but get the error message that x64 is needed.
I currently have a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition. The processor is Snapdragon(R) X 10-core and the system type is 64-bit operating system, ARM-based processor. Even though I have the 64-bit operating system, will I be unable to download the program due to having an ARM processor? If this is correct, will there be a version of ChimeraX that will be able to run on new windows 11 computers (surface pro 11 and surface laptop 7)?

Have a great day,

Elina Lynge Wagner
