There is a bug in the instructions for the release candidate, it should say to "sudo apt install ~/Downloads/chimerax-rc.deb". Not ucsf-chimerax_1.5+rc2022.11.09ubuntu22.04_amd64.deb. Does that explain the problem you had installing ChimeraX? If not,
I'd like to learn more so I can fix it.
ChimeraX does not work well with the open source Nvidia driver on Linux. You need to install the proprietary Nvidia driver.
And make sure the the display cable is plugged into the Nvidia graphics card instead of the integrated graphics. See
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-the-nvidia-drivers-on-ubuntu-20-04-focal-fossa-linux for the various ways to choose which Nvidia driver to install on Ubuntu.
Right now there are way too many Nvidia driver to choose from. That is because there is a completely open source driver, several combination open source and proprietary drivers, and several proprietary drivers available. Today, those choices are a subset
of:
nouveauYour exact choices depend on your graphics card. Stay way from the nouveau, -open, and -server versions. We're using the 470 driver on a GeForce RTX 3070. The 515 and 520 versions didn't work correctly with ChimeraX when we made our choice months ago. I expect that has changed and that the 515 and 520 drivers are fine now, but maybe not. Within a year, I expect that the -open drivers will completely replace the non-open ones, but that time is not now.

Dear,
I recently installed a Nvidia RTX Titan GPU card, and ChimeraX 1.5rc, it is a bit wired. I can open the window using intergrated GPU but if I just clicked on Chimerax or try to open it in terminal, it failed to open the program...
Is ChimeraX only working on integrated GPU? Also, I cannot install the chimerax using apt install as in the website description, but dpkg -i works... is this the right way to install?
many thanks!Hong
