help browser and embedded pdf's

Hi, Am I correct that ChimeraX help browser currently can not automatically open links to pdf's (requiring you to download the file instead)? If so, would this be a reasonable enhancement request or do the pdf reader licensing requirements make it impractical? Thanks! -jh-

Hi, Well, I had to try it (probably same as you) and apparently no, it does not show the PDF in the window. We use some built-in capabilities of a toolkit to show HTML and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a full-featured, actively developed browser like Chrome, et al. Hi Elaine, Thanks for checking! Dunno why, but It seems to be increasingly common for browsers to ship without pdf readers, requiring you to install Acrobat or some other plug-in to get this capability. I was mainly curious if you knew the reason for this. Anway, it's something you might consider adding to your undoubtedly long wish list, but I'm sure you have dozens if not 100's of much higher priorities. It turns out that there is support for PDF viewing via the built-in web browser in the Qt user interface toolkit that ChimeraX uses, but it wasn't turned on. It will be turned on in tomorrow's daily build and the 1.9 release candidate. -- Greg On 11/20/2024 9:16 AM, John Monroe Heumann via ChimeraX-users wrote:

Thanks, Greg -- I just verified that it works in the daily build! Elaine
