Re: ChimeraX download for academic research

Click on one of the download links for a specific installer (I don't know which operating system you use, but choose the correct one). Only then will you see the license text. And please keep the list in CC when replying. Dear Muhammad, For academic download there is no license file to copy, save or upload. Most people can just download the software directly without problems, as outlined below.
(1) You just go to the download page <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/download.html>
The screenshot below shows how it looks for me since I am on a mac; it would be slightly different for linux or windows.
<Screen Shot 2024-04-12 at 8.45.53 AM.png>
(2) then you click the link for the file you want to download. For example, for me it could be "chimerax-daily.dmg" if I want the daily build. Then it shows the non-commercial (academic etc.) license in the webpage with an "Accept" or "Decline" button on the bottom. It looks like this <Screen Shot 2024-04-12 at 8.47.58 AM.png>
(3) Then you click the "Accept" button and it will start the download
If you are getting a commercial licensing page which is asking for license key (instead of the non-commercial download process shown above), it is because our system identifies your computer is coming from a commercial network. Some people said this is caused by their VPN. You could try turning off your VPN before download, or downloading when you are a different location (home or work or university depending on what you already tried). if you still can't get the academic download page, then please check what network your computer is on and send us that information.

You should see three buttons that say "Decline", "Accept" and "Print this page". I don't know why they don't appear for you. Deactivate your ad blocker or try with a different web browser maybe? The buttons are displayed and work as they should for me when using Firefox with uBlock Origin active.
I hope this helps,

Yes, I see this from your screenshot now. Sorry I did not understand your question correctly until I saw the screenshot, and my previous email was unnecessarily harsh. I apologize for that. I can't help you more than suggesting trying with a different browser (since this problem doesn't happen on my side). But maybe the ChimeraX developers will be able to help you later today (they are in the US Pacific time zone, it's still middle of the night there at the moment). Dear Muhammad, For academic download there is no license file to copy, save or upload. Most people can just download the software directly without problems, as outlined below. (1) You just go to the download page <https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/download.html> The screenshot below shows how it looks for me since I am on a mac; it would be slightly different for linux or windows. (2) then you click the link for the file you want to download. For example, for me it could be "chimerax-daily.dmg" if I want the daily build. Then it shows the non-commercial (academic etc.) license in the webpage with an "Accept" or "Decline" button on the bottom. It looks like this (3) Then you click the "Accept" button and it will start the download If you are getting a commercial licensing page which is asking for license key (instead of the non-commercial download process shown above), it is because our system identifies your computer is coming from a commercial network. Some people said this is caused by their VPN. You could try turning off your VPN before download, or downloading when you are a different location (home or work or university depending on what you already tried). if you still can't get the academic download page, then please check what network your computer is on and send us that information. Did you read the text? The first item of the list says (emphasis mine): "A non-exclusive, nontransferable, perpetual license is granted to the Licensee to install and use the Software for academic, non-profit, or government-sponsored research purposes." I know reading software licenses is not fun, but this one is pretty concise compared to how these things typically go. I find it puzzling that you are at the same time concerned about complying with the academic license and unwilling to read its text. I don't think I can help more than telling you to read through this page, which should answer all your questions. I read this page several times. I know that. I saved this and uploaded it at the license place but it did not work. If you have an academic license, send it to me. On Fri, Apr 12, 2024 at 5:14 PM Guillaume Gaullier < guillaume.gaullier@kemi.uu.se> wrote:
Did you read the text? The first item of the list says (emphasis mine):
"A non-exclusive, nontransferable, perpetual license is granted to the Licensee to install and use the Software for *academic*, non-profit, or government-sponsored research purposes."
I know reading software licenses is not fun, but this one is pretty concise compared to how these things typically go. I find it puzzling that you are at the same time concerned about complying with the academic license and unwilling to read its text.
I don't think I can help more than telling you to read through this page, which should answer all your questions.
