Re: ChimeraX "camera sbs" on a desktop that takes one side-by-side picture
Apologies to the list: my last two messages in this thread were meant as a private reply to Tom, and I sent them here by mistake. Daniel
Hello all, A short update on stereo for ChimeraX users on Linux, since my question in this thread. - Phones: everyone already carries a 3D screen. With Flat Headset, a phone in a cardboard viewer becomes a 3D screen for a Linux PC, each eye sharp and in full colour on its own half. The PC does the drawing, so older phones work too. In development; the first test passed on 12 October: https://github.com/Sparky-OS/flat-headset - Glasses-free monitors: DisplayXR, an open OpenXR runtime for 3D displays, now runs our KDE desktop on real panels. In its first run on a Samsung Odyssey 3D, the 3D image sat exactly where the window was painted in 269 of 269 captures: https://github.com/DisplayXR/displayxr-runtime/issues/1928 - The web: StorySplat, tours of real places made from Gaussian splats, now has a 3D View (side by side, top and bottom, red-cyan) in any browser: https://discover.storysplat.com/docs/stereo-3d - W3C: I presented this work to the W3C Media & Entertainment Interest Group on 13 October, and the migration path the group asked for is here: https://github.com/w3c-cg/pm-kr/blob/main/talks/2026-10-13-w3c-me-ig/migrati... ChimeraX's xr mode speaks OpenXR, so I will try it on DisplayXR, together with camera sbs and --stereo on our desktop, both eyes captured. I will post the results here when the first image of the edition is out. Thank you, Daniel Ramos
