ChimeraX 1.11.1 compatibility with MacBook Neo (A18 Pro)?
Hi ChimeraX team, I'm considering running ChimeraX 1.11.1 on the new MacBook Neo (A18 Pro, 2026). I noticed the Apple Silicon build is listed as M-series only, so I assume the universal build would be the right one to use. Has the team had a chance to test ChimeraX on the MacBook Neo? Are there any known issues I should be aware of? Thanks for your time and for the continued development of ChimeraX! Best regards, Ronald Sent from Outlook<http://aka.ms/weboutlook>
The MacBook Neo is limited to 8GB of memory and this may severely limit what can be displayed in ChimeraX. On 4/22/26 1:58 AM, Ronald Hamilton via ChimeraX-users wrote:

The Biophysics graduate students from a year ago were given Mac Air laptops (not Neo) with 8 GB of memory. They do run into memory limitations with ChimeraX looking at large atomic models and cryoEM maps (e.g. ribosome size), but I believe it works ok for medium size data (e.g. 10,000 atoms). Tom
