chimeraX silhouette look spotty

Dear ChimeraX support team, I'm experiencing an issue with ChimeraX silhouette showing dark spots. I’m using ChimeraX version 1.7.1. Please see the picture attached. Could you please help me resolve this? I’m using the latest version of macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (graphics: intel iris plus graphics; processor: 2GHz Quad-core Intel core i5) Is this a graphic issue, this may be a ChimeraX bug for the newest version of mac as my peers who are using an older version of mac do not have this ChimeraX issue.

This is a problem with Apple's Intel graphics driver in your specific MacBook Pro model (MacBookPro16,2 from 2020), and it has been present in all version of macOS as far as I know. We have about 20 reports of it always on the same model of MacBook with all different macOS operating system versions. Only Apple could fix this. Apple no longer makes Intel Mac computer, and they deprecated the OpenGL 3D graphics standard about 7 years ago when the introduced their own proprietary Metal graphics, so I think there is no chance the will fix the graphics driver problem. On a good note all of Apple's new Mac machines with M1, M2 and M3 processors have extremely reliable graphics. While we have hundreds of reports of ChimeraX crashes in Intel Mac graphics drivers, we have seen no crashes in Mac M1,M2,M3 graphics drivers. If you need to make an image with silhouette edges my only suggestion is that you save a ChimeraX session (.cxs) file, and copy it to another computer with a working graphics driver. You reported this problem using ChimeraX menu Help / Report a Bug two days ago, and I explained it fully in that bug report https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/trac/ChimeraX/ticket/14941 Tom
