ChimeraX in Debian v-12

I would lie to install ChimaeraX on my Debian v-12 desktop. However, he installer requires libffl7 which is not available. Please advise. Thais in advance -- Stephen P. Molnar, Ph.D. https://insilicochemistry.net (614)312-7528 (c) Skype: smolnar1

There are several possibilites: 1) use the flatpak version of ChimeraX. I have a working prototype that I can send you. 2) Install a libffi7 package on your system, so the dependency is met when you install ChimeraX. You can get the libffi7 package from https://ubuntu.pkgs.org/22.04/ubuntu-universe-amd64/libffi7_3.3-5ubuntu1_amd.... Or https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/libffi7. 3) You could try "apt install --ignore-missing" and then create a symbolic link from the version of libffi you have to libffi.so.7 in ChimeraX's lib directory (so it doesn't affect other applications). This isn't guaranteed to work, but might. And if libffi gets bug fixes, ChimeraX would get those too. Long term, option (1) is probably the best choice. At some point in the future, we might have only one Linux version of ChimeraX, and that will be the flatpak version. However, we don't have much experience with flatpak's yet, so there may be issues yet to be uncovered. And we'd love the help. -- Greg On 7/15/2023 4:05 AM, Stephen P.
