Feature request for .glb files

Hello! I am currently exporting .glb files so I can add them to a Keynote presentation and would like to keep the labels for the amino acids. When I see the file, the letters are in 2d, do you know if there is a way to add a little bit of depth to the letters when exporting such a file? I added a video that shows how the labels are invisible from some points of view Also, it would be awesome if files could be exported in .usdz so they can be easily added to Keynote Thank you, Leo B

Hi Leo, The labels are 2d images in the 3d scene. In ChimeraX the move to always face the view direction. But that isn't possible in GLTF format. There is no easy way to add depth to a 2d image -- in GLTF this is a rectangle with an image of the text painted onto it. But even if the letters could be made to have thickness, how does this help? They will be unreadable and even unrecognizable as text, basically noise, when viewed from the side. Unfortunately we do not have the funding and programmers to implement USDZ format in ChimeraX. We put most of our effort into GLTF export for 3D scenes but also have OBJ and STL, some VRML, X3D and VTK that are generic 3D scene formats. https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/save.html There are more popular formats like Collada and FBX that we have also not had time to support. It seems like USDZ is Apple going its own way as they so often do https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/731192 Tom
