Hi everyone, I recently updated to MacOS Tahoe, Since then I encountered several issues with Chimera, ChmieraX and python. I installed and removed and reinstalled the apps but I still get the same error. For chimera I get this error: [Screenshot 2025-09-24 at 12.08.51 AM.png] FOr ChimeraX, when I try to open a session, it complains that the session was created with another version of python. I opened that session successfully several times before to the update of MacOS and I have never seen this error before. Failed opening file /Users/x/x/x/x/x/x/x/x.pyc: Python code was compiled for a different version of Python Can you please help me fix this? I guess you are not on the chimera-announce mailing list or you would have seen this mail about problems with MacOS Tahoe: Mac OS Tahoe - Chimera-announce. <https://mail.cgl.ucsf.edu/mailman/archives/list/chimera-announce@cgl.ucsf.ed...> That mail outlines two known problems, the one you reported here and also the main 3D graphics being mispositioned within the overall Chimera window. We have fixed the problem you reported (and the fix is in the current daily build) but have not fixed the other problem yet.

You cannot open Chimera session files (files that end in .py or .pyc) in ChimeraX. You have to open the file in Chimera, then you can use File→Export Scene to bring up a dialog that will export the scene to a .py file that ChimeraX can read. You have to change the "File type:" in the dialog to "ChimeraX". If that .pyc file you are referring to is one that was exported from Chimera, you have to open the .py file, not the .pyc file. The .pyc file is a compiled version of the .py file and will only work in versions of ChimeraX with the same version of Python as the ChimeraX that originally opened/compiled it (the Python version shipped with ChimeraX is typically updated with each ChimeraX release). --Eric Eric Pettersen UCSF Computer Graphics Lab
Can you please help me fix this?

Hi Eric, thank you very much for your detailed explanation. No, i’m not in the mailing list. I’ll join. I updated chimeraX, that must be it, unless i was doing it wrong. Best Regards.
