Commercial vs personal use

Hello, I previously used ChimeraX for my academic work during my PhD and would like to continue using it for personal use. I do work for a biotech company and while I don't use ChimeraX for work related to my job, I do only have a work issued computer where IT needs to install software. My question is would I still need a commercial license even if I only use it for personal use on my work computer? Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim, The software is free for personal use. However, it may not be possible to download it to your work computer, as our download setup tries to automatically detect and block unlicensed access from a commercial site. It is also problematic that you cannot even install the software yourself but would have to get the company IT to do it for you, and that the company owns the computer. So for those reasons, to the best of my knowledge you would need to have a different computer not part of the work (.com) environment in order to download ChimeraX under the auspices of the free academic license. If I find out otherwise, will let you know. Regards, Elaine ----- Elaine C. Meng, Ph.D. UCSF Chimera(X) team Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry University of California, San Francisco
