Issue with crashing after mac upgrade to Sequoia
Hello! I recently updated my Mac (M2) to Sequoia 15.3.2, and I have had a specific issue in ChimeraX since then (though I cannot be 100% positive the two things are linked). Basically - whenever I try to save (anything) in ChimeraX, the application stops responding and I have to quit it. I downloaded the newest version 1.9 of ChimeraX as well as the daily build version - but this problem persists. I read about issues with the graphics driver - but these seem to be limited to Intel chips... Hoping you might have some insight as to why this is occurring, thank you!!! Sincerely, Juliet

Save, all in version 1.9. These files seemed fine and could be reopened. I've also saved files from the 1.10 daily build recently. But my mac isn't exactly the same as yours. I guess you could use menu: Help... Report a Bug which will send your specs to us. You should also say if you get any error messages, whether you tried "save" command or menu File... Save, what type(s) of files you tried to save, whether it actually crashes or just stops responding, etc. and include your email address for feedback on the bug report. The only other things I can think of (grasping at straws) is to (1) make sure you are saving to a location (folder) that you have permission to write to (2) sometimes a preferences file gets messed up somehow and it might help to get rid of it, but somebody else would have to provide more specific advice on that, as there are multiple preferences files Good luck, Elaine ----- Elaine C. Hi Elaine, Thanks for your quick response! I reported a bug so you can see my computer details and attached the error report here as well - thanks! For reference here as well, this error was only happening when I used File -> Save... The application stops responding so I am forced to quit the application. I have now realized that I seem to be able to save just fine using the 'save' command so that is a great workaround for now! Hi Juliet, Just a shot in the dark here, but have you previously used ChimeraX on this machine while on an external monitor in dual-screen mode? I vaguely recall running into a situation like this where it turned out the file dialog box was being rendered off-screen (or so close to off-screen that only a tiny part was visible), giving the impression that the whole application had frozen. Hi Juliet, Just to clarify: for me (as I recall it) the problem arose when I had *previously* used an external monitor in extended-desktop mode and subsequently fell back to using just the laptop display. Turned out the app was still assigning the dialog to the screen space associated to the secondary monitor even when it wasn't connected. I see, interesting! Yes - I do see the save dialog - but shortly after it opens my cursor goes into rainbow circle of death mode... I have now realized that I seem to be able to save just fine using the 'save' command so that is a great workaround for now!

Hi Juliet, I have a Mac (M1) that is running Sequoia 15.3.2 and don't have any problems saving files. Saved PDB, MRC (map), and .cxs (session) files, tried both command "save" and menu: File... Save, all in version 1.9. These files seemed fine and could be reopened. I've also saved files from the 1.10 daily build recently.
But my mac isn't exactly the same as yours. I guess you could use menu: Help... Report a Bug which will send your specs to us. You should also say if you get any error messages, whether you tried "save" command or menu File... Save, what type(s) of files you tried to save, whether it actually crashes or just stops responding, etc. and include your email address for feedback on the bug report.
The only other things I can think of (grasping at straws) is to
(1) make sure you are saving to a location (folder) that you have permission to write to
(2) sometimes a preferences file gets messed up somehow and it might help to get rid of it, but somebody else would have to provide more specific advice on that, as there are multiple preferences files
