Re: [chimerax-users] Exporting image in 300 DPI

Dear all, I saw Elaine mail regarding the 300 DPI question, but I am not able to get more than 72, I played with the width and heigh as follows: save /Users/fglaser/test2.tiff pixelsize 0.1 save /Users/fglaser/test2.tiff width 900 But I am not able to get more than 72. Could you please help me to get 300 DPI? Thanks! Best, Fabian Fabian Glaser PhD Bioinformatics Knowledge Unit - BKU The Lorry I. Use the “save” command with “width” and/or “height” option, where the values are numbers of pixels. You would just calculate the pixels by multiplying the desired size in inches by the dpi. E.g. 3 inches wide X 300 dpi = 900 pixels wide. See: <http://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/save.html#image <http://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/save.html#image>> I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C. Hi Fabian! ChimeraX doesn't assign a dpi value, it just saves the pixel size that you tell it. My earlier message simply gives an example of how to calculate the pixels that you need, e.g. for 3 inches wide with 300 dpi you would need 900 pixels wide. As I understand it, from the ChimeraX point of view, only the pixel size matters, and you need to make it large enough to give the final resolution that you want. Still, if you open the resulting file in some other application like Preview or Photoshop it does not know the dpi and uses some default like 72. I think you would have to change the dpi or resolution value in that other application. I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C.
