Missing comand bar to open proteins
Hello,
A few days ago, I was using ChimeraX and the command bar to open proteins disappeared. I have tried everything including uninstalling it and installing it again, and I have no clue how to solve it. I was wondering if you could give me some guidelines to get it back. That will be amazing because I need to start working with it as soon as possible because I have an assignment to hand this week.
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Marina
Hello Marina, I guess you mean the Command Line? That is where you would enter commands to do almost everything (not just open proteins).
Command Line Interface: https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/tools/cli.html
Anyway, if you mean the Command Line I'm guessing that in some earlier session you closed it and by accident changed the preferences so that it does not automatically appear.
Try menu: Tools... General.. Command Line Interface to show it. Then, click into that tool and show its context menu (right-click, or if on Mac, Ctrl-click) and in the context menu make sure that "Start at ChimeraX Startup" has a check-mark next to it. That means that the preference is set so the tool should automatically appear whenever you start ChimeraX.
Context menus: https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/window.html#context-menu
Or, another way to set this preference is to use the following command, but of course you would need to show the Command Line first so that you could enter it:
ui autostart true "Command Line Interface"
"ui" command: https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/ui.html
I hope this helps, Elaine
