Greetings everyone, I was wondering if there is a way to change the shape of the eraser tool for manually deleting map densities. By default, it is a circle, but a flat surface could be really useful in many circumstances. Thanks, Travis

Hi Travis, A related possibility is to make surfaces of other shapes with the "shape" command and then use them to mask the volume using "volume mask": <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/shape.html> <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/volume.html#mask> However, the shapes are all curved except icosahedron and the 2D ones (triangle, rectangle); I don't know how usable these three are in conjunction with "volume mask." I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C. Meng, Ph.D. UCSF Chimera(X) team Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry University of California, San Francisco

Hi Travis, I agree a cube eraser would be nice. It would take about a day to implement it. It is a bit tricky if the cube is rotated relative to the map. I've made a feature request for it. https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/trac/ChimeraX/ticket/7597 Tom
