Dear ChimeraX staff, I have a problem with moving 3D labels. I would like to move them in the z-axis, but I cannot find how to do it. My version is 1.2.5. In some earlier release it could be done with the right mouse button + ctrl, but it seems to be changed. I have also tried to find a solution in archive messages, but the hint to click favourites and preferences also appears to be no longer an issue. Under favourites, there are no preferences or mouse settings. I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions. Kind regards, Maciej

Dear Maciej, Sorry, I don't think there is a way to move the 3D labels in Z (closer/farther) with the mouse. To use the "move labels" mouse mode, you would need to turn the whole view and move the label in X/Y instead. Another possibility is to use the "offset" option of the "label" command, see: <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/label.html#options> As far as I know, only Chimera had a way to move the 3D labels in Z with the mouse, not ChimeraX. I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C. Meng, Ph.D. UCSF Chimera(X) team Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry University of California, San Francisco

For labeling in publication images, we generally recommend using the 2D labels and arrows which do not have a Z coordinate (instead of the interactive labels that do exist in 3D). My guess is that the "move labels" mouse mode is more often used with 2D labels and arrows than the "3D" labels. <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/2dlabels.html> Elaine

Dear Elaine, thank you very much for your answer. I will stick to 2D labels then. Thank you for maintaining such a great tool as ChimeraX is!
