Generic Linux installation package for ChimeraX 1.8

Dear ChimeraX team, I noticed that version 1.8 no longer comes with a "Generic Linux" installation package (unlike 1.7). I have been using this for a centralised installation on a network drive that has so far worked very well. Is this coming to 1.8 or is it discontinued? The short answer is no. Due to the problems with the "Generic Linux" installation, eg., lots of undocumented dependencies and references to obsolete shared libraries, we have replaced it with the flatpak version. The flatpak container system, from https://flatpak.org/, it available for a wide variety of Linux systems, often as a native system package (eg., apt install flatpak). If you want the equivalent of the old tar.gz file, you can extract the files from one of the Ubuntu or RedHat package files. If your computing environment is homogeneous, then an alternative would be to package ChimeraX in a singularity/apptainer container that the networked computers could run -- just be sure to get the right graphics drivers into the container. My apologies, I see that the flatpak version of 1.8 is missing from the downloads. It should be there soon (can't imagine it taking more than 30 minutes to fix, but ...). -- Greg On 6/25/2024 10:21 AM, Greg Couch via ChimeraX-users wrote:
