The Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group of the University of Illinois is seeking applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in theoretical biophysics.
The position is funded by the Energy Biosciences Institute (www.energybiosciencesinstitute.org) to guide through molecular dynamics simulations the development of enzymes needed in second generation biofuel production. These biofuels are made from degradation of agricultural waste, e.g., of wood chips, a process which involves use of redesigned bacterial enzymes. The redesign aims at preventing inhibition of the used enzymes by process products and at enhancing efficiency. The work will be performed in collaboration with experimentalists both at the University of California – Berkeley and at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The postdoc will interact with first rate researchers in polymer science, bacteriology, plant science and bioengineering and be involved in starting an exciting, completely new research area. Pursuing in connection with biofuel studies bacterial degradation of biomass in general will be encouraged. The new postdoc will join another Energy Biosciences Institute postdoc in my group and will enjoy a well equipped research laboratory and intense research team.
