Dear Colleague,

I have a postdoctoral position available in my lab at the University of Calgary (www.maccallumlab.org). The details are below. I would appreciate your help in filling this position, so please pass this message along to any suitable candidates.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Justin

Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Calgary

I am recruiting a talented, motivated postdoc to join my lab at the University of Calgary. Candidates should have a strong computational background and will work at the interface between computational modeling, biophysics, and structural biology.

Research in this position will focus on the design of molecular interactions, specifically the development of protein-based sensors for small molecules, including drugs, toxins, and metabolites. We will use a combination of computational tools, including Rosetta, molecular dynamics simulations, and free energy calculations to design binding proteins and to understand the driving forces behind binding. The most promising designs will then be validated and characterized experimentally.

For this position, I am looking for someone with a strong background in computational chemistry, biophysics, structural biology, or a related field. Experience with free energy calculations, umbrella sampling, Rosetta, or related tools is a strong asset. Depending on the interests of the applicant, there could also be an opportunity to gain wet lab experience, but this is not required.

The University of Calgary is one of Canada’s top research institutions. Calgary routinely ranks as one of the most livable cities in the world and is only an hour from the Canadian Rockies—one of the world’s most spectacular outdoor playgrounds.

The stipend is $50,000/year for two years, plus benefits. The start date is negotiable, but must be no later than spring 2016.

To apply, please send a CV and a brief (4–5 sentences maximum) statement of interest to justin.maccallum@ucalgary.ca. I will begin reviewing applications immediately.
