Dear Andrej:
I hope this email finds you well. I’m writing to you because I am interested in recruiting computationally inclined post-doctoral students that are keen to apply their skills in the structural biology and nanoscience areas. I’m starting up a new computational electron microscopy (EM) lab at the National Institutes of Health at the Center for Structural Biology (CSB), Frederick, MD:

My lab will continue to develop algorithms for liquid cell EM of nanocrystals and design tools for stream single-particle cryo-EM analysis in real time as well as pursuing computational methods development for integrative structural biology.
Broadly, research within the CSB seeks to either directly advance our understanding of cancer mechanisms or to develop structural methodologies that may later be applied to answer cancer-related questions. A core objective is to develop and apply new tools for molecular characterization using novel biophysical and biochemical techniques including cryo-EM, NMR, X-ray diffraction and scattering methods.
The cryo-EM kit that we currently have in-place (and running) at the Frederick site:
Titan G4 with pre and post GIF Falcon 4 (to be upgraded to 4i early spring), Selectris filter Arctica with BioQuantum and K3 Aquilos II (with online fluorescent scope to be mounted 2022) 120 kV screening instrument Leicabot 2 x Vitrobots Chameleon Extensive HPC resources for real time streaming of data
If you could please forward my contact details to prospective fellows, I would greatly appreciate it and I’m happy to provide additional information. The NIH just declared that non-mission critical travel is now allowed (subject to approval) so I hope we can meet in person soon.
With best regards
