Hi Rebecca and Matt,

I hope all is well at UCSF. I wanted to pass along information about
the Insight Data Science and Data Engineering Fellows Programs in case
you don't have it already. I finished the Data Science program a few
months ago, and it was a hugely efficient way of getting into the
field. Jerome Nilmeier (also from Matt's group) is currently a fellow
in the Data Engineering program.

Anyway, the applications are due soon, and I'd be happy to talk to
Biophysics or BMI people about the program, the application process
and/or working as a Data Scientist.

:)

Monica

Applications due soon for January 2015 Silicon Valley and New York programs

The demand for data scientists and engineers is increasing rapidly.
Companies need to be able to process, query, and make sense of the
large volumes of information that are generated each day.

The Insight Data Science Fellows Program is a training fellowship for
graduate students and postdocs designed to bridge the gap between
academia and a career in data science. The Insight Data Engineering
Fellows Program is a training fellowship for individuals with software
engineering or strong coding backgrounds (no PhD required) who want to
work with the latest big data infrastructure and pipeline
technologies.

Insight highlights:

-- 6 week, full-time, data science and engineering training fellowships.

-- Dedicated office space, self-directed, project-based learning under
the guidance of top industry data professionals.

-- Over 100 Insight Fellow alumni are now working at companies like
Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Yelp, Square, AT&T, Twitter, LinkedIn,
Airbnb, Palantir, Intuit, Netflix and many startups.

-- Interview at top companies in Silicon Valley or New York City
immediately following the program.

The January 2015 session application deadlines are:

October 12 for Data Science - apply at http://insightdatascience.com
October 27 for Data Engineering - apply at http://insightdataengineering.com
