Hello, I have been using your software for a while. I love the features and general user interface. There is one thing that drives me nuts, though. The side-by-side list interface when I go to open files.A window-based one would be much easier. Is there an option for that that I am not seeing? If not, I suggest adding the option. Thank you for your software! a related suggestion would be some buttons on the file IO dialogs that would put the path directory at some fixed locations. Currently it comes up semi-random; i.e. chimera session file is located at /a/b/c , but file IO might come up /a/y/z, usually where the last session was located. Using a 'cd' command does not correct it. buttons IO path to 'cd' IO path to root IO path to what is saved as a user preference. IO path of last session, or scroll list of past sessions. The latter two would be helpful in organizing projects Matthew Dougherty National Center for Macromolecular Imaging Baylor College of Medicine ================================================= ================================================= ________________________________ From: Chimera-users <chimera-users-bounces@cgl.ucsf.edu> on behalf of Dan Kool <kool@iastate.edu> Sent: Friday, May 12, 2017 7:04:44 PM To: chimera-users@cgl.ucsf.edu Subject: [Chimera-users] Open file interface suggestion Hello, I have been using your software for a while. Hi Matt. I implemented the easiest parts of your suggestion. Now, new file browsers will start off in the most recent of: 1) Last cd 2) Current session folder 3) Directory you started Chimera in (if you started from the shell) For #3, it only applies to non-Windows, and only if the folder isn’t the same as the one you get when you start by clicking the icon (‘/‘ on Mac, ‘~’ on Linux). If none of the above apply, it uses the same logic it used previously. Available in the next daily build. —Eric Eric Pettersen UCSF Computer Graphics Lab

Hi Dan, So by a “window-based one”, do you mean a native-like dialog? If that’s what you meant, then no — it isn’t going to happen in Chimera because it would be a bunch of work to make that replacement and we’re mostly working on ChimeraX now. The somewhat good news is that ChimeraX does use a native-like file dialog so eventually you will get what you want, whenever ChimeraX is far enough along that it does the other things that you need. —Eric Eric Pettersen UCSF Computer Graphics Lab
