To whom it may concern, When creating a stereo image in chimera using the camera view options, what is the default degree of rotation between the left and right image? Can this be changed? Thank you in advance. Kristin -- Kristin N. Hi Kristin, I believe the angle may vary depending on the Chimera window size and automatically detected screen size. You do have control via a set of interdependent stereo parameters, but not directly (i.e. as far as I know there is no way to directly specify that angle). The stereo parameters, "eye separation" etc. can be changed in the Camera tool (a tab behind the Side View), interactively in theTop View (in Side View, set "Side" to "top"), and the field of view parameter can be changed with the "set" command. <http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/sideview.html#camera> <http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/topview.html> <http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/set.html> The explanation of interrelationships is described in that first link, for the "Stereo parameters" section of the Camera tool. Sorry it is a bit involved. For a specific angle, however, I suppose you could just save a (non-stereo) image, rotate the desired angle, say with the "turn" command, and then save another image, then abut the two images in some other program. Not sure how to get the correct separation of the two images in that case, however. <http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/turn.html> I hope this helps, Elaine ---------- Elaine C. Hi Kristin, The Chimera stereo parameters are shown using menu Tools / Viewing Controls / Camera. You will see "eye separation", "distance to screen" and "screen width". These are used to determine the parallax between the left and right eye images. The default eye separation is 2 inches and default distance to screen is 24 inches, making the default rotation about 4.78 degrees (= 2*atan(1/24)). Chimera does not simply rotate the view -- that is a cheap trick for making a stereo pair. It actually uses a different camera view point projecting onto the same plane. (Rotation doesn't do the projection onto the same plane, instead using a rotated plane, which produces a slightly different appearance, usually perfectly acceptable.)
