The random freeze and crash seems almost certainly a graphics driver bug. So as the error message says the only fix is to get a graphics driver that works.
After a crash, the fact that ChimeraX won’t start is bizarre. The only thing I can think of is that when you restarted it used Intel graphics and your Intel graphics driver can’t even provide basic OpenGL (version 3.3) that ChimeraX needs. I don’t think that is right — every recent computer with Intel graphics supports OpenGL 3.3. I agree though that the problem is very likely to do with how your laptop manages the dual graphics.
One thing that may help you debug is to check which graphics card (Intel or Nvidia) ChimeraX is actually using. The ChimeraX command “graphics driver” will report in the log which graphics is in use:

You may find ChimeraX more reliable and adequately fast (as long as you are not using VR) if you run it with Intel graphics.

If I remember correctly, it was not enough to set the NVIDIA Optimus driver to use the GTX, but I had to disable the Intel graphics in the BIOS as well - maybe not best for energy saving, but it worked...

All the drivers are updated. I run chimerax with the GTX as the GPU. I think it's something with the dual GPUs, is there a fix for it?
I tried both 0.7 and the new 0.8 (not daily).
On my other laptop, an old Macbook pro it run perfectly.
