Permission denied writing file...

Hi Sir/Madam, When I press the button ‘save snap shot to desk’, it shows ‘Permission denied writing file C:\Users\zhang\Desktop\image1.png’. how should I open the permission? Please help me. Looking forward to your reply. Sincerely, Wing 从 Windows 版邮件<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=550986>发送

Hi Wing, Clicking the icon that looks like a camera executes a ChimeraX command something like save ~/Desktop/image1.png supersample 3 ...as described in <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/tools/toolbar.html#home> In your case it doesn't work because you don't have permission to create files in that folder. For now, you would need to use the "save" command in the command line and instead of ~/Desktop/image1.png you would put some location in which you are allowed to create files. You can name the file what you want, except it should end in some image format suffix like .png. For example, if there is already a folder C:\My Files\ where you have permission to add new files, then the ChimeraX command could be something like save C:\My Files\somefilename.png <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/save.html#image> Sorry, I don't know much about the folders on Windows, so you will need to figure out what location is possible on your own computer and put it in the command. I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C. Meng, Ph.D. UCSF Chimera(X) team Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry University of California, San Francisco

Hi Wing, Perhaps you are using Microsoft OneDrive which changes your ~/Desktop folder to be the public desktop which is not writable. We have looked at this problem and have not yet come up with a good solution where ChimeraX can detect that OneDrive is in use and then find your real Desktop folder which OneDrive put somewhere else. We hope to solve this one day. Here is our ChimeraX bug report for that https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/trac/ChimeraX/ticket/4567 Tom
